Fractions with the same denominator, are called ‘like’ fractions. Adding like fractions is simple- we just add the top numbers (the numerators). The denominators stay the same. For example, 1/8 + 2/8 equals 3/8 Adding unlike fractions is a little harder. We must first we turn the two unlike fractions into like fractions, and then we can add the numerators.
