Black Holes
Astronomer Steve Eikenberry at the University of Florida is on the hunt for black holes. Using a custom built camera affixed to the Gemini South telescope in Chile, he is honing in on the supermassive black hole at the center of our Milky Way Galaxy. With support from the National Science Foundation, he hopes to learn more about how this particular black hole evolved, why there seem to be supermassive black holes at the center of most if not all galaxies, and what powers them. He also wants to know more about smaller, stellar-sized black holes that are peppered throughout the galaxy. Producer: Kate Tobin
