Blizzard

In this live-action program viewers will learn that blizzard is a dangerous winter storm that is a combination of snow and wind, resulting in low visibility. Students will come to understand that the National Weather Service defines a blizzard as a snowstorm lasting more than 3 hours with strong winds of more than 35 mph, resulting visibility of less than a ¼ mile. They will discover that the potential for a blizzard arises from three key conditions; moisture, a front of warm and cold air and the air temperature to be below freezing. The program discusses the fact that in the long term, blizzards cause great economic loss due to lower business activity, and the costs of protecting and repairing property and damaged infrastructure.
