Detecting and Monitoring Plasma Clouds: Protecting Communication Systems and Satellites
The research team from Birmingham University has secured a contract with the US Air Force to develop cutting-edge instruments that can detect plasma clouds, known as solar wind, emanating from the sun. Their advanced imager will be utilized on the Coriolis space mission to provide early warning, up to three days in advance, of approaching coronal mass ejections. This technology will help safeguard radio communication systems and prevent potential disruptions caused by these massive plasma clouds.
