There are six different types of aid: emergency, development, bilateral, multilateral, conditional and charitable aid.

Emergency aid is short-term and deals with primary effects of disasters, whereas development aid offers long-term development of infrastructure and standards.

Multilateral aid is raised and distributed by international organisations, such as the IDA.

Bilateral aid is provided by one country to another, usually with conditions attached.
