Dividing Whole Numbers by Fractions
In a previous lesson, we used "Keep, Change, Flip!" to divide fractions by whole numbers. So when we had 1/3 divided by 5, we took 1/3 and split into 5 different groups. This time, we'll divide whole numbers by a fraction. That means we have a number that we're splitting into a fraction of a group. Wait, what does that even mean? How can you divide a number like 5 into 1/3 groups? Let's find out here! We'll still do "Keep, Change, Flip!", but we'll also show you with some counters and numberlines so you can visualize what's going on. Let's go!
