In this math video we are learning about functions, the slope, y--intercept & equation from a table. This is a four part constructed response question where we are presented with a table of values representing a linear function. In Part A, we will identify the y-intercept from the table. We will understand that the x-coordinate of the y-intercept is ALWAYS zero. We will identify the ordered pair in the table with an x value of zero and understand that the y-value is the y-intercept of the function. In Part B, we will find the slope of the linear function from the table. We will review how to find slope two ways. The first way we will find slope is by writing it as a ratio of the change in y to the change in x. We will use the table to identify the change in each variable. We will also review and use the slope formula and find the slope using two points from the table. In Part C, we will write the equation of the linear function in slope-intercept form; y=mx+b. We will do this using our answers from Part A and Part B the y-intercept and the slope respectively. For Part D, we will be given an ordered pair and asked if it is a solution to the linear function. We will use the equation we wrote in Part C and check by input the x value of the ordered pair into the equation for x and the y value of the ordered pair into the equation for y. An exemplar solution is modeled and explained.
