You can make a generator from an old toy motor. mount a 9-volt toy motor and connect its terminals to a led. attach the small pulley on the motor axle to a large pulley. as you crank the large pulley , the smaller one will rotate the motor at a fast speed. this will produce a current which will light a led -- which in this case is a streetlight.
