Heat Loss
We compare two cans, one painted black and the other painted white, to see how quickly they lose heat. The containers are placed in front of a heat source and heated to the same temperature. The temperature in each container is recorded over time as they cool. This shows that the black container cools faster as it doesn't reflect the heat back inside as well as the white container. Physics - Energy And Radioactivity - Learning Points. Surface colour affects the infrared radiation emissions from an object. Black surfaces emit more radiation than white surfaces. Heat loss is faster at high temperatures. A Twig Experiment Film. Let students experience real experiments in lab conditions anywhere, from setup, method all the way through to analysis and real-world application.
