How the Oceans Formed
The same water has been on Earth for four and a half billion years. Where did this water come from? Earth Science - Weather - Learning Points. 4.5 billion years ago, the Earth's surface was too hot for water to exist. Inside the Earth's core, oxygen and hydrogen had bonded to create masses of steam. Thousands of volcanoes erupted, emitting the steam into the atmosphere. The Earth cooled, causing thousands of years of rainfall - which provided half of the world's water. A Twig Context Film. Reinforce and extend the learning required by the curriculum. Twig’s context films show abstract concepts in action in the real world.
