Screaming Jelly Baby
We add a jelly baby to a boiling tube containing potassium chlorate. When the chemicals react, gas is rapidly produced. The screaming sound is created as the gas escapes from the tube. The sweet burns brightly as the reaction occurs. Chemistry - Chemical Industries - Learning Points. Sugar has a high energy content. Energy contained in sugar can be released in an oxidation reaction. Heated potassium chlorate produces oxygen. An exothermic reaction gives out energy in the form of heat. A Twig Experiment Film. Let students experience real experiments in lab conditions anywhere, from setup, method all the way through to analysis and real-world application.
