National Science Foundation-funded small business SynTouch has developed a sensor technology that gives robots the ability to replicate -- and sometimes exceed -- the human sense of touch. Their sensor is modeled after the human fingertip. In addition to research being done to bring the sense of touch to prosthetic hands, SynTouch is working on an NSF-funded project to develop a machine that can measure and quantify the way surfaces feel.
