Simplify an Expression with Parentheses and Exponents
In this math video we will simplify an expression with parentheses & exponents. We will learn about order of operations using the acronym PEMDAS to support our learning. P represents parentheses. We will clear the parentheses first by simplifying the numerical expression inside the parentheses. E represents exponents. We will clear or evaluate any terms with exponents by understanding that the exponent tells us how many times to multiply the base by itself. M & D are considered together and represent multiply and divide. We will read the expression from left to right and perform any multiplication or division in order. A & S represent add and subtract in order from left to right. We will understand that a numerical expression is read and evaluated from left to right using these steps. An exemplar problem is modeled and explained.
