Black holes and coffee - Scientists & Engineers on Sofas (and other furnishings)
Over a cup of coffee, astrophysicist Dan Evans chats about black holes, his research and what’s on the horizon. According to Dan, black holes are probably the simplest objects in the universe. They only consist of three basic parameters: mass, spin and charge. What is a black hole? According to Dan Evans, a program officer at the National Science Foundation, it is a remarkably simple object. It is a region of space and in time that is so dense, that nothing, not even light can escape from it. How do scientists see black holes? Lucky for astrophysicists, black holes glow "like fireworks" in x-ray light when materials fall down them. Ivy Kupec and Dan Evans venture into the unknown, discussing everything from the basic properties of black holes to questions even scientists don't even know, like how do they even come to exist? In this video you'll see and understand black holes better than ever before. Video produced by the National Science Foundation
