How You Can Determine Similarity
In this video lesson, we will learn the definition of similar figures. Similar figures are figures that are the same shape but different sizes. Similar figures have corresponding sides that are proportional and corresponding angles that are congruent. We will learn how to identify corresponding sides and angles and how to use a proportion to determine if figures are similar. We will also learn how to use a proportion to find a missing side length given that two figures are similar. We will also learn why it is important to enlarge or reduce an image proportionally to avoid distorting the image. Student practice is embedded in the video and exemplar solutions are modeled and explained. Grade 8 Common Core Topics/Standards
