Multiply Fractions by Whole Numbers Using Models | 5.NF.B.6 💛💙
In this math video we will review how to multiply fractions by whole numbers in multiple ways. We will do this while answering a four part real world math question about people attending a football game. We will first be asked to write an equation that represents a portion of the stadium filled with people. We will learn how to write an equation and determine how to find a part of a part. We will understand that multiplication is commutative. In the second part we will multiply fractions to solve the equation two ways. We will first simplify a common factor in the numerator and denominator, then multiply. Second we will review to multiply fractions we first multiply the numerators and then the denominators. We will also review how to simplify a fraction. To solve parts three and four we will multiply a whole number by a fraction. We will break the whole number into parts using the denominator of the fraction and identify how many parts we need using the numerator. An exemplar solution is modeled and explained.
