Scissors Skill: Trim the Lion's Mane
When a lion flaunts its mane, it shows he is ready to rule the pride. So if your lion's hair is in need of a tame, this activity will help turn him from a little cub to a powerful bit cat. It is a great activity for children who are confident in using scissors but still want to challenge their skills. It encourages lots of practice and focus as they cut the lines in a range of different directions. Now let's get those mane's fit for a king! MATERIALS: - Paper /card (in a selection of colours) - Marker - Glue - Scissors INSTRUCTIONS: (1) On a small piece of a yellow card, use your marker to draw the outline of a lion's head and cut it out. (2) Draw on a lion's face (3) Turning your lion's face on to its front, use your glue to stick strips of multicoloured paper all around to make its mane. (4) Turn your lion back over. On each strip of paper, draw different lines to indicate where to cut - you can draw lines that are straight, curved, zigzag, vertical, horizontal and as many as you like. (5) Once completed, your children can use the scissors to trim and tame the lion's mane, just in time to rule over the pride.
