Capillary Action

By Imagine Learning - Twig (middle years+)From BoclipsOctober 6, 2025

Water is added to dry and bent matchsticks to let us see capillary action at work. The wood absorbs the water causing the matchsticks to straighten.

Biology - Plants - Learning Points.
Water is a polar molecule because the electrons are not evenly distributed across the molecule.
Water has both adhesive and cohesive properties.
Capillary action is the ability of liquids to flow through narrow channels and spaces without the help of external forces.
Xylem cells are hollow, long, tube-shaped cells joined end to end to form continuous tubes which transport water and dissolved minerals from the roots up to the leaves of plants.

A Twig Experiment Film.
Let students experience real experiments in lab conditions anywhere, from setup, method all the way through to analysis and real-world application.
