Distance in the Coordinate Plane
In this math video we will find distance in the coordinate plane. We will understand that we can create a right triangle using a coordinate plane. We will also understand that the Pythagorean Theorem applies to any right triangle and is a way to find a diagonal distance in a coordinate plane. We will review that the Pythagorean Theorem states that the sum of the squares of the legs is equal to the square of the hypotenuse. We will review that the legs of a right triangle form the right angle. The hypotenuse of a right triangle is opposite the right angle and is always the longest side. We will identify the length of the legs and the hypotenuse and complete the formula for the Pythagorean Theorem. An exemplar solution is modeled and explained.
