In this math video we will determine the possible lengths of the missing side of a right triangle. We will be given two side lengths and asked to determine two possible lengths for the third side. We will understand that the Pythagorean Theorem applies to any right triangle. We will review that the Pythagorean theorem is a squared plus b squared equal to c squared where a and b represent the legs of the right triangle and form the right angle. The hypotenuse is the side opposite the right angle represented by c in the formula and is always the longest side of a right triangle. We will use the two side lengths given in two ways to determine the two possible lengths of the missing side. An exemplar solution is modeled and explained.
