Science Experiment: Frozen Water Flow Illusion
Magicians are all about tricking the eye. This super cool experiment will give the illusion that flowing water has frozen in time. The water comes out so perfectly, that it doesn’t look like it’s moving at all. You’ll need only a few simple supplies, but everyone will think you are a top wizard! And if you want to be a magician that does reveal their tricks, we have explained the science behind it below! Materials: - Balloon - Tape - Water - Bowl Instructions: (1) Fill your balloon with a lot of water and tie the end. (2) Place the balloon into the bowl. (3) Next, add tape to the balloon in a square shape, but make sure to leave a small open section in the middle. (4) When the tape is secured, press a needle into the small square of the balloon. (5) Watch the water flow like a fountain and then steadily trick your eyes like it’s not moving! Science Explained: This experiment is known as a laminar flow. The tape keeps the balloon secure and the surface even. When a hole is made in the balloon, the tape keeps it in place and allows the water to flow out in a nice stream. The flowing water moves without any disruptions, which gives the effect of it being frozen and not moving at all!
