Shopping as a Real World Inequality | 7.EE.B.4
In this math video we will represent shopping as a real world inequality in math. We will be given a real world situation about shopping for walnuts and cashews with $25. We will begin by writing a math inequality using words to represent the situation. We will understand that if we have $25 to spend then we must use the inequality symbol less than or equal to since we cannot spend more than $25 or greater than $25. We will use the bulleted information provided to determine the amount of money spent on walnuts by multiplying the number of pounds purchased by the dollar per pound. We will then understand that we are not given the number of pounds of cashew purchased. We are instructed to use the variable c to represent this since it is an unknown. We will write a variable expression to represent the amount spent on cashews. We will eliminate answers as we review this process together. An exemplar solution is modeled and explained.
