DIY Craft: Melted Crayon Butterfly
Symmetry is all around us from nature to shapes and even our own reflections in mirrors and windows. Learning about symmetry with children helps them to understand balance and teaches them about the patterns of the world. One common symmetrical shape is a butterfly. Both of their beautiful, bright wings reflect the same pattern. Here is a fun, creative craft to help little ones explore symmetry! Materials: - Paper - Pencil - Butterfly silhouette - Crayons - Pencil sharpener - Iron - Paper towels - Scissors Instructions: (1) First, fold your paper in half and draw the outline of the butterfly. You do not have to draw the whole outline, only half. (2) Next, shave your crayons onto the paper. Spread the crayon into fun, colourful patterns. (3) Fold the paper in half, making sure the crayons are on the inside. (4) Place a paper towel on top and press with an iron (5) Unfold the paper to reveal your beautiful symmetry butterfly. (6) Once cooled, cut around the outline.
